Two sisters were found dead at their residence in Manai village of Jodhpur district early Friday morning, just hours before their weddings were scheduled to take place on Saturday. Police have initiated an investigation and ordered a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The deceased have been identified as Shobha (25) and Vimla (23), daughters of Deep Singh. Both were employed as teachers at a private school.
Sudden Deterioration in Health
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Roshan Meena, wedding celebrations had continued at the family home until late Friday night.
Around midnight, the sisters retired to their room to sleep. At approximately 4 am, their condition reportedly deteriorated suddenly. Family members rushed them to a private hospital in Jodhpur, where doctors declared them brought dead.
Their bodies were subsequently taken back to the family residence.
Police Intervene Before Cremation
Sources said the family began preparations for last rites without conducting a post-mortem examination. However, police received information about the incident and reached the spot around 6 am, halting the cremation process.
The bodies were sent to the mortuary at Mahila Government Hospital (MGH) for post-mortem examination. After preliminary formalities, the bodies were later handed over to the family.
Preliminary Findings
Police officials stated that initial investigation suggests the possibility that the sisters may have consumed a poisonous substance. However, authorities clarified that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
No suicide note has been recovered from the residence so far.
Investigation Underway
Police have recorded statements from family members and are examining all possible angles, including accidental consumption and other circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Forensic teams are also assessing the scene to collect relevant evidence. Authorities said further details will emerge after medical and forensic reports are completed.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the village, with wedding preparations abruptly turning into mourning.
