A one-year-nine-month-old child was allegedly strangled to death in Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Friday afternoon. Police have taken the child’s maternal aunt into custody and registered a case of murder. The investigation is ongoing.
Incident Reported Through PCR Call
According to police officials, a PCR call was received at the Mukherjee Nagar police station around 1:30 pm reporting the alleged killing of a minor. Senior officers, including the ACP and SHO, reached the scene along with local police personnel.
The accused, identified as Ajra (30), was found unconscious at the park where the incident allegedly took place. She was immediately shifted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
The child was rushed to a hospital by a local resident who reportedly intervened. Doctors declared the toddler dead upon arrival.
Family Background
Police said the deceased child, identified as Hadi, lived with his parents in Old Seelampur. His father, Adil, is currently employed with a private company in Greece.
Hadi’s mother, Uzma, had recently come to her parental home in Mukherjee Nagar’s SFS Flats area during the month of Ramadan. The incident occurred while the child was at the park with his maternal aunt.
Police stated that the child’s maternal uncle made the PCR call, alleging that his sister Ajra was responsible for the killing.
Investigation Findings So Far
Officials said that during questioning, the accused has repeatedly changed her statements. Preliminary inquiries suggest that she had been suffering from depression and is unmarried.
A medical examination has been conducted, and authorities are assessing her mental health condition as part of the investigation.
Police have registered a case of murder at Mukherjee Nagar police station and are examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and witness statements to establish the sequence of events.
